About this experience
This route is designed for those who want to explore the most beautiful lake in the Balkans and its picturesque surroundings. You will enjoy the wild untouched nature of Lake Skadar, see colorful villages, descend into Lipa Cave, and visit the medieval town of Žabljak, where Montenegro was born. And our reward will be a lunch of delicious national dishes at a restaurant by the waterfall of the river Cijevna!
What to Expect
Nature of Lake Skadar
You will visit the Skadar Lake Nature Reserve and experience Balkan nature. You will see the picturesque expanse of the lake, stretching to the border with Albania. I will tell you about the various fish and birds that inhabit the area, as there are many: Skadar Lake is home to curly pelicans, herons, cormorants, and other birds. If you're interested, we can take a boat ride on the lake to get a closer look at its incredible landscapes. Also, on the shores of Lake Skadar, you will find the medieval town of Žabljak, a picturesque fishing village, and an abandoned fortress on a hill, which we will definitely explore on our journey.
Lunch at the Waterfall
Then we will head to the waterfall of the Cijevna River, hidden in a beautiful canyon away from the hustle and bustle. Here you can take great photos, enjoy delicious coffee with pastries, feed the ducks and geese, and even swim in the refreshing water at the equipped beach, if you wish.
Authentic Villages and Landscapes
You will visit the bay of Crnojevica, one of Montenegro's natural landmarks, and stop by the medieval village of the same name. You will see the 19th-century stone Danilo's Bridge, Obod Monastery, and much more. In this place, you can experience all the charms of river landscapes: old houses, fish restaurants, chirping birds, and blooming lilies.
Underground Montenegro
You will embark on a train ride into the underground world of Lipa Cave, which also holds its primitive beauty. You will observe ancient accumulations of stalactites and stalagmites, which have been striving towards each other for centuries, and learn what the cave walls of curious shapes and outlines remain silent about.
