About this experience
You will have to make friends with the humid subtropics of Imereti. You will bypass tourist trails and see Kutaisi, which is not described in guidebooks. This will be a real adventure - a journey into the distant past: you will get acquainted with the atmosphere of the authentic part of the city, walk on the former bottom of the ancient sea, visit caves where ancient people lived, and hear a lot of interesting facts about the legendary Argonauts.
What to expect
Colours of old Kutaisi
You will admire the ancient authentic houses and porches (similar to Tbilisi ones), walk through the local market, and see old taverns. In the Sapichia district, you will explore an ancient church and see a semi-abandoned railway platform. On the way, I will tell you the history of Kutaisi, the ancient capital of the state of Aia, where the Argonauts sailed in search of the Golden Fleece.
Picturesque canyon on the site of ancient seas
After passing through the old town, we will head along a picturesque railway cut through the rocks on the cliff to the canyon. The atmosphere at the bottom of the canyon is absolutely unique - cliffs that were once the bottom of the ancient seas of Barrem and Aptian loom overhead. If you're lucky, you might see fossilized fish and huge prehistoric shells! In the canyon, you will learn to ford mountain rivers, move among piles of boulders, and climb steep mountain slopes through the forest. A real rush of adrenaline!
Little-known caves
We will visit a cave where an underground river with drinking water flows. The second cave will be Sakadzhia, where people lived long ago, as evidenced by the hearths and numerous scattered tools and animal bones. In the caves, you will truly feel the spirit of ancient civilizations and immerse yourself in the deep history of the region.
Secluded beauty of the ancient monastery
At the end of the tour, you will visit the monastery of the princes Mkheidze - Mozameta. It is hard to see from the road, as if the monastery is hidden in the thick greenery of the mountains. In this place, time seems to stand still, and for a moment, you can feel the quiet and true wisdom, from which the local air is woven...

Had some minor payment issues as we preferred non-cash payment by card while the guide preferred cash), but we sorted it out. Overall, everything's good. Both a attentive and pleasant conversationalist and a good guide.

The tour was interesting, a light rain was falling, but it didn't overshadow our wonderful impressions. There was a delay in the to...
