About this experience
To truly understand Turin, a whole lifetime might not be enough, but we will try to uncover its secrets in just a couple of hours! I will be your guide into the life of a city that was the first capital of united Italy. I will show you its best spots and reveal their histories. The past and present of Turin will come alive on my tour.
What to Expect
Through Centuries and Millennia: Chronicles of the City and its Iconic Locations
From Ancient Rome to the Italian Republic - we will embark on a journey through Turin's milestones. At the gates of Porta Palatina, you will hear about how the Romans started building the city and inspect the ruins preserved since antiquity. In the Royal Garden, I will narrate the story of the Savoy dynasty. Palazzo Carignano, Palazzo Madama, and the Royal Palace - you will learn how counts, dukes, and kings lived here. We will enter the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist, where you will try to unravel the mystery of the Turin Shroud, a puzzle that has puzzled scientists from around the world. The city's secrets will also unfold through its squares: on Piazza San Carlo, you will understand how Turin became the center of the House of Savoy, and on Piazza Castello - why it was the first capital of all of Italy.
Additionally, I will show you the local 'Eiffel Tower' - Mole Antonelliana - a postcard symbol of the city, cozy Italian courtyards, the famous Turin arcades, and the best views of the city and its beauties.
Modern Turin: Engaging in the City's Life
I will share interesting facts about the present Turin - ones you can't find in guidebooks, only in local newspapers. I will explain the connection between Piedmont and 'Nutella' paste, how fans of 'Juventus' and 'Torino' coexist here, where the story of the 'Lavazza' brand began, and what 'Slow Food' means to the locals - you will grasp the nuances of life in Turin. Of course, we will discuss the peculiarities of the character of Northern Italians and their habits. We will observe how skillfully the people of Turin preserve the past and restore buildings, keeping old signs and traditions. If desired, we will visit one of Turin's atmospheric cafes and have a local coffee drink, 'bicerin.' As the city tour draws to a close, I will recommend non-touristy restaurants and bars and help you plan an interesting walking route through Turin.
