About this experience
I offer a tour to one of the amazing places in Montenegro - the man-made Piva Lake. In addition, we will visit several interesting historical sites, and along the way I will tell you about the country, its rulers and population, about the history of the Balkan Wars and their consequences on the modern world, and much more.
It stretches in a canyon among the mountains in the north of the country near the town of Pluzine. Piva Lake is unique not only in origin but also in appearance - narrow and long (45 km), it resembles a river from one side. The depth of the reservoir reaches 188 m, and it is located at an altitude of 675 m above sea level.
Itinerary
- Piva Lake and its surroundings with dams. The reservoir appeared after the construction of the Mratinje dam on the Piva River in the 1970s.
- The town of Pluzine. A settlement called Pluzine was created to serve the lake, where workers were settled. Today, the tourism sector is slowly developing here.
- 16th-century Piva Monastery. Here you will hear the unusual history of its creation and relocation.
Also on the way to Piva Lake, you will see many other attractions and be able to take amazing panoramic photos. The magnificent views of northern Montenegro, especially Piva Lake, will astound your imagination and make you feel like you're in a fairy tale or the movie Avatar!
If desired and for an additional fee, boat rides along Piva Lake with a stop for a picnic in a picturesque spot are possible. The emerald color of the water, rich vegetation, ducks and schools of fish, hanging wooden bridges, gorges in the rocks - all of this will delight your eyes during the boat ride. Piva Lake is very rich in fish.
