Want to understand why Almaty is considered one of the best places for mountain trekking? The answer lies in the path to the green pasture Kok-Zhailau in Ile-Alatau Park. From here, incredible views of Almaty open up, and the route passes through cool forests, picturesque mountain slopes, and breathtaking landscapes. Put on your trekking boots and let's hit the trail!
What to Expect
We will fill up with the purest mountain spring water and start our journey. The first third of the mountain trekking will be challenging: you'll have to climb a mountain ladder built for the convenience of tourists. Here, you will feel like athletes and champions! The rest of the route will be relatively easy, with a gradual gain in altitude.
We will pass through birch and pine groves, enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding peaks of Ile-Alatau National Park. At the Kok-Zhailau pasture, we will take a break and take many photos against the backdrop of luxurious landscapes. After resting, we will head to the nearby roaring Batyraika waterfall, where we will feel the refreshing power of mountain water. And we will begin the gentle descent back to the city.
Who Can Join
The route is a light mountain trekking suitable for beginners, students, and active seniors. It is not recommended for people with cardiovascular diseases, asthma, epilepsy, or various limb injuries.
Organizational Details
- Children aged 9 and above can participate in the hike
- Hiking duration: 5 hours (3 hours up, 1.5–2 hours down); total transfer by car: 1.5 hours
- Morning trekking time: 9:00–18:00. In warm seasons, the trekking can start slightly later with a return in the evening if needed.
- The guide may cancel the excursion 1 day before its start in case of emergencies like severe lightning, avalanches, fires, or heavy rain in the mountains—this rarely happens, and the route is mostly accessible almost year-round.
- Season-appropriate clothing, trekking shoes or sneakers with good grip, sun hat – mandatory. Trekking poles, sunglasses – recommended. Bring a snack and at least 1 liter of water with you.

What's Included and Not Included in the Price
- The price includes transfer from the hotel and back and the services of a Russian-speaking mountain guide
- Upon request, the excursion can be conducted for a larger number of travelers, inquire about the cost in advance
- For an additional fee, you can hire our professional guides with knowledge of English and German languages
