Thoughtful and Tender Land: Excursion to the Homeland of Yesenin (with your own car)
About this experience
Excursion to the native lands of Sergey Yesenin - perhaps my favorite program. Here we will visit houses witnessing the poet's youth and an ancient monastery. You will learn about Yesenin's upbringing and the later periods of his creativity, as well as about other talents of the Ryazan land - admiring the soulful landscapes, you will understand where they drew their strength and inspiration from.
What to Expect
Konstantinovo Village
This is where the poet, who praised the simple beauty of Russian nature, was born. You will see his house as well as the church where his parents were married and where Sergey was baptized. Nearby stands the wooden house of the priest Ivan Yakovlevich Smirnov, who played a significant role in the poet's development. We will visit the estate of the landowner Lidia Kashina - she is the one portrayed in the poem 'Anna Snegina'. And if desired, we will visit the Literary Museum of Yesenin, where you can trace the stages of his life and learn about the poet's works.
Poshchupovo Village
The impression of Yesenin's places would be incomplete without the Ioanno-Bogoslovsky Monastery. It was seen by Baty: he not only did not destroy it but also placed his golden seal on the miraculous icon of Ivan the Theologian. Sergey Yesenin often visited here with his grandmother, and in his mature years, he will write about it: 'I fell in love with the monastery on a high mountain with a longing of a crane'. Despite all the hardships, the monastery is being revived: well-kept grounds, restored temples, spiritually inspiring icons, and a porcelain iconostasis where you can stand for hours. Optionally, we will visit an interesting tour with a priest, where you will see usually closed areas - for instance, the Ossuary. A pleasant bonus - monastery stalls with milk, butter, cottage cheese, fragrant bread, honey, and balms. And nearby is a miraculous well with crystal-clear water.
Novoselki Village
If you don’t get tired after such a rich journey, I suggest visiting the homeland of the remarkable singers Pirogov. Their unique voices held the entire repertoire of the Bolshoi Theatre for a long time. You will see that our land, where such powerful talents were born, is special - and you will learn why it is called the Belt of the Virgin Mary, a place of spiritual and physical strength and inspiration.
Organizational Details
- The excursion is possible with a rented car: rental cost from 2500 rubles, details inquire via correspondence
- It is advisable to have comfortable shoes as there will be a lot of walking. The monastery has strict rules: men in shorts are not allowed inside, neither are women in open dresses or trousers; but at the entrance, you will be offered headscarves, skirts, and other necessary items.
