What to expect
Shrines: history and architecture
At the beginning of the tour, you will visit the Mir Movsum-agi mosque, named after the holy elder who, according to legend, had no bones. You will learn why this man was so revered, and visit his sanctuary, stunning with its luxurious decoration and graceful architecture. And in the vicinity of the village of Mardakyan, you will visit the ancient sanctuary of Pir Gasan, which attracts many pilgrims. I will tell you about the history and legends of these places, as well as about the millionaire patron Gadji Zeynalabdin Tagiyev, who is buried here.
Primordial fortress and mystical arboretum
In the Mardakyan fortress, known as the Quadrangular Castle, you will look at the surroundings from its top, remember the journey on the creaky staircase, and learn what influenced its location. Next, you will take a trip to the Merdakan Arboretum, drowning in greenery. Walking through the park, you will hear why this place is considered mystical. Children will especially enjoy the mini-zoo. In the past, the arboretum was a dacha of Murtuza Mukhtarov: we will talk about the tragic fate of this oil magnate in his mansion.
Following the traces of Sergey Esenin and Stepan Razin
Here, at the wonderful dacha in Mardakyan, Esenin stayed for a long time. I will tell you about the life of the great poet in Azerbaijan and his memories of Baku in the local museum. At the end of the trip, you will visit the cave where Stepan Razin's camp was during the Persian campaign, and hear stories about secret passages and hidden treasures.
