About this experience
Tbilisi remembers. Remembers a lot. Its devastation by Aga-Mahmad-Khan, entry into the Russian Empire, German colonists, Count Vorontsov, sawmills on Madatovskiy Island, Sovietization, communal apartments, turbulent 90s... Tbilisi remembers much more than its residents: something he would gladly share is still preserved under a layer of cultural sediment or archival dust. But he also generously shares - all in details! You just need to know how to read them... Shall we read?
What to Expect
History in the patterns of Chugureti streets
The district was founded in the 18th century, but the most interesting part of its journey began with the resettlement of German colonists in the Caucasus in the early 19th century. It grew along with the city, changing its views and texture.
Here are some of the places we will visit:
- The once best hotel in the Caucasus, where Tchaikovsky and Ostrovsky stayed
- Luxurious "twin houses" built with "wooden" rubles
- A modest mansion of the largest Tiflis foundryman
- Houses, one of which housed the muse of Edvard Munch, and in another was born and raised the world-famous film director
- A couple of places that still bear names as if it were 1911
Details of a city that no longer exists
Time goes by and leaves traces - memories. They are often hidden in the smallest details scattered throughout the city. They are "lively," but unfortunately not eternal. And it is along these disappearing traces that our route is laid. They are not always immediately visible, but sometimes they hold as much history as in the most voluminous encyclopedia.
Water and telephone hatches from the pre-revolutionary past, Italian (and not only) "Salve" on the facades, pre-revolutionary bells and signs "For Letters," insurance plates... All these silent witnesses of history remember as much as not every Tbilisian knows. And sometimes even more!
Collection of artifacts
In addition to the details scattered throughout the city, the collection is also kept in my "treasure chest of tales," which I always take with me on excursions.
Since childhood, I have been enthusiastically collecting all sorts of "stuff" - from lighters in the yard to Soviet coins brought to me by grandmothers from the entrance. This hobby has reached a professional level, and now in my collection, there is a selection of Tiflis artifacts: postcards, old newspapers, photographs... And letters. Those that people wrote to each other. The same ones that created the image of the city and the era.
We will definitely get in touch with these artifacts - this is the history that is not taught in schools or universities. And meanwhile, it is in it that all the charm lies! And through old newspapers and letters, it is especially felt.
Organizational Details
- Be prepared to walk a lot!
- If desired, you can stop by a cozy spot to rest and have a snack (this is not included in the cost of the tour)
- Our adventures may take a little longer - perhaps you will want to study some "point" in more detail or on the street, we will start a conversation with a Tbilisian, who will tell more colorfully about his native city than any guide... We have a specific plan, but it is always interesting to deviate from it from time to time!
- If you need to join a tour on a day not available for booking on the website, contact me in private messages - I will try to adjust for you

In this tour, the most important component is the personality of the guide. Georgiy is amazing, extraordinarily erudite, with a vision of the city's history through details. I would say it is even a bit of a theatrical performance with the guide in the leading role, a bit of a quest in search of how...
