Elusive Beauty of Tbilisi
About this experience
Tbilisi is not revealed to everyone - to understand the character of the city, a special approach is needed. Get ready to get lost for a while among the tangled streets of the once wealthiest district of Tbilisi, peer behind the facades of old mansions, and hear the stories of local residents. Luxurious marble staircases, cozy balconies, intricate grilles, and beautiful paintings - you will not only capture Tbilisi's artifacts of past epochs in photos, but also immerse yourself in the spirit of the old city.
What to Expect
Architectural Treasures of Sololaki
Before you will appear the facades and winding streets of the historical quarters of Tbilisi - Mtatsminda and Sololaki. Here are located luxurious residential houses, created by orders of merchants, industrialists, and oil magnates, ancient schools, salons, and boarding houses, preserving remnants of former luxury. You will learn who were the first inhabitants of Sololaki and find the brightest spots of the district: the legendary Mauritian house, Beria's mansion, which locals avoided, gothic gymnasium, mansion of the 'brandy king', and places where Tchaikovsky, Gumilev, and Lermontov lived.
Old Tbilisi in Detail
We will stroll through the labyrinths of the historical center in search of grand staircases, interesting architectural details, and successful angles for photographs. You will see and capture luxurious entrances where intact ovens, metlakh tiles, stained glass windows, intricate wrought iron fences, incredibly beautiful hand-painted frescoes, massive marble steps, and carved doors have been preserved.
In the Footsteps of Tbilisi Residents
The heroes of our walk will be the famous residents of past epochs - mansion owners, socialites and millionaires, writers, artists, and other representatives of the bohemia who lived and created in Tbilisi. You will learn about the fates of the prestigious intelligentsia, hear unconventional stories of ups and downs, unhappy love, and fairy-tale luck. And you will also uncover secrets hidden behind the doors of the stately houses of the imperial and Soviet eras.
