The Shrines of Mtskheta and Tbilisi Courtyards
About this experience
In the ancient capital, you will visit the most important shrines of the city: the Jvari Monastery, Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, and Samtavro Monastery. You will follow Georgia's religious path and hear ancient legends. In the modern capital, you will take a walk through the famous courtyards, where scenes from the great Daneili, Paradzhanov's nocturnes, and the faces of Fellini and Cheleentano's heroes will come to life... because Tbilisi is a theater! You will be the audience, and I will be the deputy director and the voice behind the scenes.
What to Expect
Ancient capital of Georgia, founded by Noah's descendant
In the sacred city of Mtskheta, you will visit the 6th-century Jvari Monastery - its location is described by Lermontov in the work "Mtsyri": "Embracing like two sisters, the streams of Aragvi and Kura...". You will visit the Svetitskhoveli Cathedral (Living Pillar), near which I will tell you the legend of Christ's tunic. Next, you will walk to the Samtavro Monastery, where the tomb of the first Georgian Christian king Mirian and his wife, Queen Nana, is located, as well as the relics of the holy elder Gabriel of Samtavro. During the tour, we will talk about the origins of Christianity in Georgia and the most significant historical-religious events that have influenced the formation of the Georgian people's mentality and values. On the way to Tbilisi, you can have a snack at Salobio, a famous place since Soviet times where they cook delicious dishes of the national cuisine.
Tbilisi Courtyards
First, we will sit on my terrace, from which the whole Tbilisi is visible, drink wine, and then take a walk in my hometown. A city that has experienced many invasions and absorbed different cultures, acquiring its own color and atmosphere. About the courtyard of Tbilisi, how many dramas, comedies have you given to the audience! Papala (the painted crazy woman) walks along Sololaki, her past beauty shining under an old umbrella with a playful aristocratic smile. Kika (the deaf-mute kind strong man) in a blue robe of a loader with an aluminum basin beats out a melody and tries to mumble something, and his children tease him, tug at his robe - with a skillful move, he catches one of them and gives greasy candies. A lady with curvy forms conquers men, and approving whistles are heard. The closer to the square, the street becomes like Beybutov's. From Europe, we slide into Asia. The balconies hang like grape clusters, and the fountains invite you to cool off...
