Tbilisi and Surroundings
About this experience
The route of my individual tour is akin to a temporary portal: from a city that remembers great ancestors, you will return to old, yet modern Tbilisi, to dynamically capture the unique charm of these two capitals. The places praised by poets and the mix of times and styles on the hilly streets - Mtskheta and Tbilisi will enchant you with ancient and modern beauties.
What to Expect
Memory of Ancestors
Since the 4th century BC, Mtskheta was the capital of Iberia. This ancient city is the cradle of Christianity in Georgia, so here you will see incredible architectural masterpieces of a religious nature. First, visit the Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, where the Chiton of Christ from Jerusalem is kept, and then witness the merge of the Aragvi and Kura rivers at the foot of the Jvari Monastery. The 6th-century temple is located in a picturesque place - on the top of a cliff, offering a panorama of the surroundings of ancient Mtskheta. But we won't get by with just the Christian history of the city - I'll take you to the ruins of the ancient fortress of Armaz, so you can feel how old and great the Georgian land is.
The Phoenix City of Tbilisi
I will tell you how Georgia acquired its present capital and what links Tbilisi to the mythical bird. You will admire the carved balconies, unique architecture of caravanserais, ascetic temples and domes of ancient baths, wealthy bourgeois houses of the 19th century, and facades of buildings in the modern style. Tbilisi is incredibly eclectic in everything. And it's especially easy to notice this in modern, almost futuristic buildings - the Glass Bridge and the Puppet Theater, which you will see alongside Sharden Street, the Botanical Garden, and the Narikala Fortress.
