What to Expect
Medeu Gorge and Legendary Shymbulak Resort
You will stroll through the picturesque Medeu Gorge, where you will see the world's largest high-altitude skating rink and the dam protecting Almaty from floods and mudflows. Next, you will hike the 'stairway to health' and, if desired, take the cable car to a height of 2230 meters above sea level. Here lies the Shymbulak ski resort, famous since the Soviet Union era. True mountain enthusiasts can ascend even higher to 3200 meters and enjoy magnificent views of snow-capped peaks.
Organizational Details
- Transportation is included in the price
- In winter, if desired, you can ice skate at an altitude of 1690 meters during the excursion and descend from the Shymbulak mountain on skis or a snowboard (additional fee applies)
- Duration of the excursion - 4 hours including the cable car ride. If you wish to extend the excursion, this can be done for an additional fee by prior arrangement with the guide.
- If you choose to stay after the excursion, the guide will not wait for you, and you will have to return on your own; the cost of the return trip is non-refundable
- Additional costs: cable car ride for the guide and for yourself - approximately 2400 rubles per person, as well as the cost of the eco-bus - approximately 560 rubles for the ascent to Shymbulak mountain
