About this experience
Tate Modern opened in the early 2000s and became the first museum to abandon the idea of a permanent exhibition. Therefore, every visit here is a surprise and a new knowledge gain. By examining the works of iconic artists, we will discuss the reasons why the language of art changed so drastically at the beginning of the last century, and trace its further evolution.
What to expect
Over two and a half hours, we will walk through the floors of an old power station transformed into a museum by the outstanding architects of our time Herzog & de Meuron at the end of the last century, and visit a new building constructed by them not long ago.
We will start with exploring the works of artists from the early 20th century: Paul Cezanne, Amedeo Modigliani, Pablo Picasso, Natalia Goncharova, Kazimir Malevich, Marc Chagall, and Max Ernst. Together we will find the answer to why the language of art changed radically at the beginning of the 20th century. We will study its peculiarities, different movements and 'isms,' and understand how this language developed under the influence of historical events.
We will also examine the history of the emergence of new media arts, such as photography, video art, performance, and installation. We will talk about the greatest masters working in these directions and see works by contemporary artists.
This season's blockbuster is the exhibition of Philip Guston, one of the most consistent expressers of the hopes and tragedies of the 20th century, the founder of the art brut movement. Dates: October 5, 2023 – February 25, 2024.
