About this experience
Why is it possible to not like contemporary art and not be ashamed of it? What is art anyway? I invite you to search for answers! We will plunge into the vortex of Van Gogh's 'Starry Night', into the color fields of Matisse, and into the unconscious of the surrealists. After this meeting, you will feel like an art connoisseur-philosopher who can interact with any art objects.
What to Expect
Let's take a walk through the history of modern art, from the late 19th century to the beginning of the 21st. We will explore how art influences society and vice versa, what mission the artists of the past century saw for themselves, and what our contemporaries create. In the center of our attention:
- 'Starry Night' by Vincent Van Gogh: we will immerse ourselves in the night sky of southern France, over which the artist worked 'with restless patience', conveying emotions with bright and rich colors.
- 'Les Demoiselles d'Avignon' by Pablo Picasso: it is believed that this work marked the beginning of cubism. I will explain what features the style absorbed from African and Oceanic art.
- 'Dance (I)' by Henri Matisse: like Van Gogh, Matisse preferred bright shades to create the effect of visual intensity. Let's think about what emotions the dynamic bright figures on the canvas evoke and why.
- 'The Persistence of Memory' by Salvador Dali - one of the most recognizable works of the artist. We will discuss what melted cheese has to do with it and why the Louvre rejected the painting.
- 'Self-Portrait with Cropped Hair' by Frida Kahlo, who always sought to show her own reality, to expose emotions and experiences.
- 'One: Number 31' by Jackson Pollock, a key representative of abstract expressionism. Let's talk about the 'dripping' technique, when the artist splashes paint from different angles, creating an energetic surface.
- 'Campbell's Soup Can' by Andy Warhol: an answer to 'complex' abstract art. We will face questions of the uniqueness of art and the value of copies in the context of mass production, as Warhol did.
- 'Pink Panther' by Jeff Koons, one of the best-selling artists in the world. Continuing Warhol's traditions, he confronts art and aesthetics of mass culture.
