About this experience
Not long ago, it was impossible to visit the Gur-e-Amir Mausoleum, where Tamerlane rests, with a tour. Guides referred to the legend of the curse of his tomb, bringing disasters and wars. I will help you dismiss superstitions and trace the path of the great leader and his empire through chronicles and medieval artifacts. Let this knowledge inspire you to search for life's purpose and faith in yourself!
What to Expect
Tamerlane: Truth and Myths
The life of the great conqueror of the past is still surrounded by a halo of mystery. According to common belief, Tamerlane built pyramids of skulls of defeated enemies, led barbaric raids bringing countless disasters to cities and peoples, and was illiterate and uneducated. I intend to debunk these and other myths before your eyes to present the true personality of this extraordinary individual. The family crypt of the Timurid dynasty – its structure, interior, and ancient relics – will provide the key to understanding the fate of one of the most extensive empires in human history and its ruler.
From Ancient Times to the Present Day
We will visit Tamerlane's mausoleum, where his descendants and spiritual mentors rest. We will examine the map of the life and military campaigns of the great commander. We will find answers to questions that still spark debates among scholars and historians:
- Was Tamerlane a direct descendant of Genghis Khan;
- Are there descendants of Tamerlane in the world today;
- Did Tamerlane have a talisman that brought success in all endeavors, and what happened to it;
- What real stories are associated with the looting of the mausoleum and the opening of the tomb.
As a bonus, I will definitely show you the place where the cult film 'Gentlemen of Fortune' was shot (one of the photos for the tour will remind you of a scene in Samarkand).
Organizational Details
Entrance ticket to the mausoleum is paid separately ($3 per person).
