About this experience
Amir Timur is a unique but controversial figure. For some, he is a ruthless warrior who crushed everything in his path, for others - a leader of his people. Together we will walk through the non-touristic streets of Shakhrisabz, find the tomb of the great conqueror, and explore whether the curse of Tamerlane really exists or if it's all someone's clever fabrication.
What to expect
- Our route will pass through the mysterious 'Devil's Plateau'. You will see granite boulders of colossal forms, resembling faces of demons, figures of wild animals, and pagan deities. I will tell you the legend associated with this place.
- The first stop - Ak Saray. Shakhrisabz is primarily associated with the palace of Amir Timur. The building has not been well preserved to this day, but my historian friend will tell you how it looked before. He will also show an exact mini-copy of the palace the size of a human, and then we will visit him for a cup of tea.
- During the walking part of the tour, we will stroll through the city, see the trading domes, remnants of ancient baths, mosques, and visit the gallery of an artist - the creator of a model of Tamerlane's palace.
- From the gallery, we will enter the memorial complex Dor-ut-Tilovat, built in 1370-1371 after the death of the outstanding religious figure Shamsiddin Kulal, the founder of Sufism.
- We will visit the 'power complex' - Dorus Siyadat. We will reach the tomb of Amir Timur - the very place where he was supposed to be buried. I will tell you why this never happened and reveal the mystery of Tamerlane's curse.
- On the way back, I will take you to a cozy place loved by many locals. We will sit on comfortable trestle beds, order lamb dishes, tea, and enjoy the view of the mountains.
- The final part of the excursion program in Shakhrisabz will be a visit to the mosque Khazrati Imam with a vaulted ceiling in the hall and a decorated ayvan. You will also see the towering plane trees from 1370.
- In Samarkand, we will visit the historical and ethnographic park 'Eternal City'. We will walk along the canal embankment, explore the caravan sarays, and meet craftsmen.
