About this experience
Great Syracuse - the homeland of Archimedes. The city, whose fame spread far beyond the Italian peninsula, just like the fame of its most famous citizen. On this walk, you will be delighted by the monuments of antiquity - World Heritage sites, admire the beauties of modernity, and get acquainted with the most interesting historical stages of the ancient city.
Program
- During the tour, we will visit the Archaeological Park, where walking around the territory of the ancient Greek theater, we will learn what it meant to the Greeks, as well as about the origins of our modern theatrical art.
- The 'Ear of Dionysius' will tell its history, vividly embodied in the drawings of picturesque rocks and cave outlines, one of which, we will visit.
- A walk to the so-called 'Tomb of Archimedes' will pass by the unusual giant fig tree, about 400 years old, which amazes with its incredible forms. D. Cameron could shoot the second part of 'Avatar' here!
- We will admire the modern church architecture by visiting the Cathedral 'Madonna delle lacrime'.
- Next, you will enjoy a walk through the historic city center on the island of Ortigia. Among the intricacy of narrow streets, we will try the most delicious samples of local products, including fresh rural cheeses and sausages.
- The city's Cathedral will greet us with its unusual atmosphere, its history began 2500 years ago. And if after all this you still have strength, we will take a stroll through the little-known corners of the island.
- For lunch, I will recommend local restaurants 'for locals'.
Organizational Details
- Additional fees: ticket to the Archaeological Park (10 euros); ticket to the Cathedral (2 euros).
- The excursion can be done by the guide's car (from your place of stay there/back). Price negotiable. Transfer from the Archaeological Park to the historic center can also be done by the guide's car (up to 4 people) or taxi - minivan (up to 7 people).
- The tour can be adjusted according to your interests. We can exclude some parts and add others, which I will suggest on the spot.
