About this experience
One of the best resorts of the sunny island will open its arms for you. I will show you the main attractions - ancient squares and churches, elegant palaces. You will walk along the unusual city park alleys and enjoy views of the Ionian Sea and Mount Etna. You will also learn about the local way of life, hear interesting stories, and get a simple recipe for limoncello!
Guy de Maupassant wrote in his diary: 'If someone is lucky enough to spend a day in Sicily, and they ask me what they should see, without hesitation I would answer - Taormina!'
What to Expect
The city center
You will see the monument to the symbol of Taormina and the ancient clock tower Torre dell'Orolodgio. Explore the Corvaja Palace, which has become the hallmark of our city. The April 9 Square - a kind of observation deck in Taormina - will charm you with fabulous views of the Ionian coast and Mount Etna. And I will reveal why it got its name.
Temple architecture
We will also visit the religious monuments of the city: the magnificent Cathedral of St. Nicholas, the church of St. Catherine of Alexandria - the most revered in Sicily. I will share the remarkable history of the construction of the Church of St. Augustine and explain at what time of day the small church dedicated to St. Joseph changes its color.
Ancient heritage
Special attention will be paid to the ancient antiquities. You will visit the Greek Theater - the oldest in the city, dating back to the 3rd century BC. If we are lucky, we will peek into the baroque church of St. Pancras, built on the remains of an ancient temple: its fragments are still located next to the basilica. I will tell you about the great martyr Pancras, the patron saint of the city, and about the festival that is celebrated every leap year.
In the shade of the old garden
We'll hide from the hot sun in the shade of the city park. You will learn about its founder - the Englishwoman Florence Trevelyan. Thanks to her efforts, the people of Taormina can enjoy exotic plants and trees, stone stairs, statues, and whimsical gazebos.
Not just history
During the walk, I will tell you about the present life of the people of Taormina, their customs, and habits. I will give recommendations on what Sicilian souvenirs are worth taking with you, where to try delicious Italian food, and I will also share a simple recipe for the limoncello liqueur with which you will amaze your friends.
