About this experience
Walking through the narrow streets of the Old Town, you will immerse yourself in the 'sweet' history of Barcelona and discover antique chocolaterias, tea houses, and the best ice cream in the city. I will show you the places where the Catalans have been going since the 19th century, and reveal the traditions and legends of each establishment.
What to expect
'Sweet Ten' of Barcelona
In the Gothic Quarter and the vibrant Born district, you will learn about local culinary traditions and taste the most delicious Catalan desserts. The tour includes:
- La Rambla Boulevard - one of the most famous streets in the city. In the past, locals gathered here to show off their outfits and enjoy the best treats - such as crema catalana.
- Boqueria Market - the oldest in Europe, dating back to the 13th century. Here, I will tell you what connects Alexander the Great with the modern 'sweet table' of the Catalans.
- 'Chocolate Street' - as the locals call Petritxol Street. You will see dozens of memorial plaques commemorating its illustrious residents, and chocolaterias that have been attracting queues at the entrance for decades.
- 14th-century Jewish Baths, now a cozy tea house, the pastries for which are exclusively prepared by Spanish monasteries. They also make incredible handmade liqueurs, cookies, and candies that you can buy in a quaint local shop.
- Italian Gelato - you will meet the hereditary gelato maker Marco, who keeps coming up with new flavors for this ancient dessert.
- Confectionery Hive - that's how one of the ancient sweet shops is called. Here they offer handmade caramel with honey, rosemary, and thyme.
- Turron Dona Francisco - a family-owned factory, producing turron for over 120 years, the main Christmas sweet in Spain. You will hear about its varieties and the romantic legend associated with it.
- Best Croissant in Spain - this award was given to the pastry shop opened by the German wife of a Barcelona local. You will enjoy a stunning croissant with mascarpone and uncover the unexpected history of this pastry.
