About this experience
It happens that the historical center of the city becomes 'dead' and exists only for tourists. Not in Baku! Here, the regulars of these places live and work in the houses of their ancestors, passing down the traditions of hospitality from generation to generation. Carved balconies, eastern ornaments, architectural eclecticism, and the amazing life behind the facades - this is how you will see Baku with me.
What to Expect
Where Guests are Always Welcome
On a walk through the Old City, you will see all its color: the homes of local artisans, an unusual gallery, mansions of millionaires, elegant balconies, and lanterns.... With me, you will follow a route along secret alleys, discover the most atmospheric places, and hear incredible stories. I will tell you how outstanding residents of Baku lived and why Baku is rightfully called the 'Paris of the Caucasus'.
Walking Route
Venetian Palace. Exploring the building erected in the early 20th century, you will learn the sad story that prompted a famous millionaire to recreate a corner of Venice on Baku soil.
Fountain of Desires and Well of Time. I will tell you about the most beloved and ancient fountain in Baku, and you will understand why Baku residents love to make wishes here. We will follow this tradition as well.
Ancient Hammams, Mosques, and Mektebs. You will learn about the bathing day in Azerbaijan in the Middle Ages, the rituals and ceremonies performed. I will show you the best examples of ancient architecture, religious schools, and stone mosques. Together we will examine unusual balconies and stained-glass windows, carved shebeke windows, and peek into residential homes.
Unusual Buildings. House with paintings, House with cats, Sailor's House, and House of Love.... Each of them deserves a separate story. I will reveal their past and the challenging fates of former residents to you.
Tasty Bonus. At the end of the tour, I invite you to a traditional Azerbaijani tea party, where we will continue to discuss Baku and its residents, traditions and customs, ancient history, and national cuisine.
