About this experience
A sightseeing tour of the historical quarter of Icheri Sheher and the pedestrian part of the city will introduce you to the iconic landmarks of Baku. You will learn about the rich history of the 2000-year-old city, where Europe and the East, Christianity and Islam, real destinies and legends have organically intertwined. Discover the diverse Baku architecture - masterpieces of architects from all over the world - see the tower-symbol of Baku and visit the historical residence of the rulers of medieval Caucasus.
What to Expect
Touch the Cultural Heritage
The tour will start in the square near the Puppet Theater, from where along the fortress walls surrounding the old medieval city, you will walk to the elegant home of Gadzhinsky and the Maiden Tower, about the origin of which there are many beautiful legends. Delving into the alleys of the Old City, you will admire the masterpieces of medieval architecture, learn about their history and features. You will take a stroll through Governor's Garden - the oldest park with a picturesque fountain - and of course, visit the Palace of the Shirvanshahs - the former residence of the rulers of the ancient state.
Stories and Legends
We will take you through authentic streets and non-touristic paths: you will see the house of St. Nina and the house of the Sadikhov brothers, the elegant Baku Philharmonic, the houses of Mukhtarovs, Karayevs, and Assadullaevs, as well as the world's first school for Muslim girls. The city will share with you the history of each house, its legends, and unusual stories. You will learn how Baku's location at the crossroads of cultures and civilizations influenced its development, what things appeared here before anywhere else in the world, and how oil began to be extracted in Baku.
The City of Silver Age Poets and Soviet Films
At different times, Velimir Khlebnikov, Sergei Yesenin, Anna Akhmatova, Osip Mandelstam, Ryurik Ivnev visited and worked in Baku. You will walk through places connected with these outstanding poets and hear their verses dedicated to our city. You will also visit the filming locations of the movies 'Amphibian Man' and 'The Diamond Arm,' Molokan Garden, Tagiyev Passage, Azerbaijani caravanserais, and many other interesting landmarks.
