About this experience
Napoleon called St. Mark's Square 'Europe's most beautiful drawing room'. You will dive into the times of the Venetian Republic. You will discover what Procurators are, who lived and worked there. How the Florian café is connected to Casanova, what is the uniqueness of the city's clock tower, and who the Moors were. And we will also examine in detail the architectural dominants of the square: the Doge's Palace and St. Mark's Basilica.
What to expect
Secrets of the legendary square
You will explore the main attractions of St. Mark's Square from the outside and uncover their secrets. The program includes:
St. Mark's Basilica. This Byzantine beauty can be talked about for hours! But I will try to focus on the most important and interesting details. You will find the kokoshnik of Basil the Blessed and see the mosaic with the 'recovery' of St. Mark's relics. You will find the image of the architect of the basilica and learn why he is biting his finger.
Doge's Palace. This is a real architectural lace box. I will explain why the two columns of the palace are red and one of them differs in size from the others. In addition, on one of the capitals, you will 'read' the history of a Venetian family, see a drunken Noah, and laugh at how Adam and Eve are depicted.
And we will also admire the magnificent viewpoint of the Rialto Bridge and the most beautiful 'street' in the city - the Grand Canal.
