About this experience
Embark on a 12-hour adventure and exploration! Witness the variety of Sri Lanka's fauna and landscapes during a safari in Udawalawe Park — observe families of elephants, deer, and birds. Travel along picturesque roads to the medieval Galle Fort, linked to the colonial history of Ceylon. And in the gem mines, witness the process of creating precious stones — embracing the best of this part of the island.
What to Expect
Udawalawe Park Safari
The first destination of this grand day is Udawalawe National Park, home to over 600 wild elephants, crocodiles, deer, buffaloes, peacocks, various reptiles, and birds. Experience Ceylon's wildlife in its natural habitat during a 4-hour safari on an open jeep. You will observe the animals of Ceylon in the wild and learn about the unique features of Sri Lankan elephants. A visit to the orphanage where young elephants are nurtured will also be a memorable experience.
Galle Fort — Traces of colonial Sri Lanka
Stroll within the walls of the medieval fort on the shores of the Indian Ocean, learning about its Portuguese, Dutch, and English past, along with the history and significance of the port city of Galle. Admire the white lighthouse, the clock tower, the granite bastions, and the fort's ramparts. This place, the largest fortress in Asia built by Europeans, offers insights into centuries of colonialism on the island.
Treasures of Sri Lanka in Mines and Museum
The third theme of the journey revolves around minerals and gemstones. Visit the moonstone mines, the washing and sorting area, and witness the processing of moonstones into jewelry. At the museum near the mines, marvel at a collection of processed and raw Sri Lankan gemstones—sapphires, amethysts, alexandrites, and rubies.
