About this experience
To better understand Latvia, it is not enough to limit yourself to getting to know Riga. For this reason, we will head to Sigulda - a beautiful place located 50 km away from the city. Here you will find stunning nature and romantic ruins of castles that once belonged to a powerful order. This trip will help you unravel the history of our country and, consequently, gain a better understanding of its present.
What to expect
I will tell you the story of the rise and fall of the mighty crusaders, about the Livonian War and its consequences. About how powerful rulers influenced subsequent events, how castle owners changed. You will learn how Sigulda became not only a famous resort, but also a well-known sports complex, how locals live, what role Prince Nikolai Kropotkin played in all this. There are many stories associated with these places. Real tragedies unfolded here.
After getting acquainted with Sigulda, we will take a ride on the cable car and admire the magnificent views of the Gauja River valley from a bird's eye view. We will walk to the "Spring of Eternal Youth" and visit Turaida Castle - a bishop's castle, where you will explore the museum exposition representing the inhabitants of the castle in different eras, while I will tell you about the lives of monks and bishops.
The "Garden of Destiny" will also leave you spellbound - a garden of stone sculptures created based on folk tales.
Before departing to Riga, you can replenish your strength at the roadside tavern "At Ragana's", named after the beautiful hostess who lived here in ancient times.
