About this experience
The centuries-old history of Riga is captured in ancient cathedrals, squares, houses of wealthy citizens, granaries, and fortress walls. I will help you decipher this stone chronicle and unravel the mysterious character of the Latvian capital.
What to Expect
Old Town's 'Postcards'
Walking through the narrow streets of Old Riga, you will hear local legends and see all the classic city landmarks: the Dome Cathedral, Town Hall, St. Peter's Church with the tallest spire in Latvia, the Catholic Cathedral of Saint Jacob, and the Church of Saint John. Additionally, I will show you the narrowest street in Riga, the restored masterpiece of medieval architecture - the House of the Blackheads - and the Swedish Gates, the only ones preserved in the city fortifications.
New Riga
By the 19th century, Riga emerged from its tight fortress restraints; the construction of expensive income houses, picturesque parks, and majestic temples began. The former fortress ditch became a city canal, a place of relaxation for Rigans. You will see the main attractions of the Boulevard Ring: the Freedom Monument, the Nymph Fountain, the Opera House, the Orthodox Cathedral of Christ's Nativity, Bastion Hill, and the Barclay de Tolly Monument. To wrap up, I will recommend cafes and spots for independent exploration.
