About this experience
Lisbon is one of the most convenient cities in Europe, but even here it can get quite hot in the summer, and climbing the seven steep hills of Lisbon is difficult even for the most enduring travelers. This car tour will not only help you feel the spirit of the historical districts of Alfama, Baixa, Chiado and Bairro Alto, but also climb to the most interesting viewpoints of Lisbon. In a few hours, you will have a chance to see the city from the best angles, learn about the historical features of the old quarters, immerse yourself in the cultural environment of Portugal, and most importantly - fall in love with magical Lisbon!
What to expect
Best panoramic points of Lisbon
- From the viewpoint in Monsanto Park, you will have one of the most immersive and extensive views of Lisbon and its surroundings: you will admire the misty mountains of Sintra, the park of the Kelush palace, the Jeronimos monastery, the Lisbon Riviera, the Christ statue, and the twin span of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.
- Eduardo VII Park will greet you with a splendid view of Lisbon's main street, blooming boulevards, the Old Town, and the leisurely Tagus River.
- To explore the historical quarters of Lisbon, we will climb to the highest viewpoint of the Old Town, Nossa Senhora do Monte belvedere. And in this secluded corner, you will see a tiny chapel that remembers the first king of Portugal.
- Descending from the hill, we will make stops at the “Sun Gate” belvedere and one of the most popular viewing platforms of Saint Lucia, overlooking the red tiled roofs of Alfama and the white towers of the Church of St. Michael.
Atmosphere of historical quarters
Passing by the Thieves' Market, where antique lovers and vintage enthusiasts from all over the world gather today, we will penetrate into the heart of Lisbon, the ancient Alfama neighborhood. It is here that fado was born - one of the symbols of Portugal, a musical genre that speaks the language of emotions. Then you will drive through the pompous city center, observing the former Royal Square, the architectural composition of which is completed by the ocean, and the Baixa district, drawn and built in a ruler-straight pattern after the devastating 18th-century earthquake. In the elegant and dapper Chiado, you will hear about a killer who became a saint and learn about the past of the neighborhood, which over the centuries has been a refuge for urban poor, a center of religious life, and a favorite quarter of the intellectual elite. And having climbed another hill, you will find yourself in Bairro Alto - a district with the highest concentration of restaurants, bars, concert venues, and galleries - and explore the surroundings at a four-level belvedere with its own fountain, garden, and rose garden.
