About this experience
You will walk through the main quarters, squares, and viewpoints of one of the oldest capitals of Europe. Lisbon is a city of contrasts, full of charm and secrets that I will definitely reveal to you! You will visit the historic districts of Baixa, Chiado, and Alfama, climb the viewpoints of Portas do Sol and Santa Luzia, and try the famous cherry liqueur. I will tell you about the history and traditions of Lisbon, as well as give useful tips on what local dishes to try, where to have coffee, and what to do in the evening.
What to Expect
Lisbon Through the Centuries
The tour will start in the heart of Lisbon - at Rossio Square in the central Baixa district. I will tell you the tragic history of the Portuguese capital, which suffered from the devastating earthquake of 1775, and explain how the disaster influenced modern architecture. You will see the most significant places in the historic part of the city: the Cathedral, Commerce Square, the Church of Saint Anthony, and the Santa Justa Lift. Next, you will visit the 'elegant' hill where the bohemian Chiado district is located. Here, high cuisine restaurants coexist with art galleries, small antique shops, and theaters.
Tram Ride to Alfama!
You will take a ride on the famous tram No. 28, which will take you to Alfama, the oldest and most picturesque district of the city, famous for its labyrinth of narrow streets and tiled facades. Everyone here knows each other, children play merrily on the streets, and the smell of sardines lingers in the air. I will tell you how local residents spend their ordinary days and evenings: where they go for coffee, lunch, and dinner, where they prefer to shop. You will learn about traditional Portuguese dishes and drinks that are worth trying in Lisbon. And I will also recommend how to spend your free time in the city, where to go and what to do.
