Detmold - The Capital of Lippe District
In this beautiful city, we will meet. On a short walk through the former capital of the Principality of Lippe-Detmold, I will introduce you to the widely represented Weser Renaissance, combining features of Italian and Northern Renaissance. You will see typical half-timbered houses and the castle - the residence of the Lippe princes. I will also tell you about the famous citizens of the city: the outstanding poet Freiligrath and the playwright Grabbe.
Secrets of Teutoburg Forest
You will be amazed at how significant this forest is for Germany. I will tell you about the famous Teutoburg Battle in 9 AD, which led to the liberation of the Germans from Roman rule. Near the Arminius Monument, the leader of the ancient Germanic tribe of the Cherusci, we will talk about the symbolic connection of its discovery with the unification of German lands into the German Empire in 1871. Next, I will take you to the mysterious Externsteine Rocks, or the German Stonehenge. Their age is estimated at tens of millions of years, the German tribes in ancient times considered this place sacred, and in the 20th century, Reichsführer SS Himmler was very interested in this natural formation. In addition, you will visit the ruins of the medieval town of Falkenburg on a high hill. Near the surviving castle walls and tower, you will learn about the short history of the city, founded in the 12th century and declined after a fire in the 16th century.
