About this experience
Surrounded by legends, the Tarsher Hill in the Val Venosta valley has been attracting travelers from all over the world for over two centuries. You will walk the paths of Roman emperors, Mussolini, and Saint Jacob, learn about the beliefs of Tarsher, and visit the amazing village of Ganglegg with preserved buildings from the Bronze and Iron Ages. Ancient Celts, Romans, German special services, and archaeologists tried to solve the mystery of these places - now it's your turn!
What to Expect
Celtic mysteries of Tarsher Hill
You will visit a place where the road of Roman Emperor Claudius Augustus passed and the pilgrimage route of Saint Jacob led - at Tarsher Hill. Here, they stopped during their wanderings and wars, lived and died: I will tell you about the history of the hill, its legends, beliefs, and celebrations. You will learn why the ancient Romans excavated the hill and who lived here long before the arrival of the Romans, why Mussolini made Tarsher the main stronghold of the Alpine Wall, and why local residents gather on the hill on the first day of fasting as soon as darkness covers the hill.
Journey to the Bronze Age
After exploring the Romanesque church of St. Faith and learning about its history, we will set off to Schlanders. Here awaits you a hiking trail into the mountains to the settlement of Ganglegg - the only place in South Tyrol where the structures of the Iron and Bronze Ages have been restored - and, of course, an immersion into the ancient history of this settlement.
