About this experience
The Suoyarvi district belongs to the Priozersky region, but despite its proximity to the tourist centers of the region, in the land of 'swamp lakes' it is easy to feel like explorers. In our expedition, you will touch the legacy of two cultures, visit a place sung in the runes, collect a special stone as a memory, and relax on the beach by the campfire, sipping Karelian tea.
What to expect
64 km of dirt road around Bolotnoye Lake and a sea of impressions!
- Along the way, you will see Finnish farmsteads with well-preserved foundations of houses and yard buildings, as well as the ruins of the Suoyarvi cast iron foundry, where you will extract a Suoyarvi souvenir - a green slag stone.
- Visit the late 19th-century Finnish Lutheran church, explore a Finnish pillbox, and anti-tank barriers.
- In the village of Yekhilya, sung in the runes, we will talk about why this is the folklore Mecca of the Suoyarvi district.
- You will also visit the source of the Shuya River and see the first Shuysky rapid - the Suoex cascade.
- Our itinerary will include a large dairy farm owned by a local farmer, where you will taste and be able to buy environmentally friendly dairy and dairy products.
- We will stop at the remains of a Finnish mill.
- And on the sandy beach of Savinisto, we will have a break with a campfire and genuine Karelian herbal tea.
How the tour goes
- You independently arrive at the city of Suoyarvi (train 160 daily)
- We meet you at the station and set off on a journey
- The excursion lasts approximately 6 hours
- Then we will take you to any convenient railway station for you (Petrozavodsk or Sortavala)
Organizational details
- Have comfortable shoes, boots, and mosquito repellent with you
- Tea and snacks are included in the travel cost (you can bring your own thermos)
- By agreement, we are ready to organize overnight stay in a tent on the shore of the lake on the sandy beach of Savinisto. We will provide camping and fishing equipment.
