About this experience
This tour is perfect to see the iconic sights of Samarkand in a short time! The mausoleum of the Timurid dynasty, the mausoleum of Rukhobad, and the Registan Square with three medieval universities - I will show you all of this in 2 hours. And for a complete immersion in the Eastern life, we will walk through the streets of the Old City and have a small photoshoot.
What to expect
Walk through the main places
- Gur-Emir Mausoleum - we will start with a visit to the mausoleum of the Timurid dynasty and one of the most significant masterpieces of the East. The mausoleum contains the tombs of Amir Timur, his sons, grandsons, and his spiritual teacher.
- Rukhobad Mausoleum - this pilgrimage mausoleum to the north of Gur-Emir, built over the tomb of the mystic Bokhanuddin Sagardji. In addition to the sheikh himself, the mausoleum houses his family members and relatives brought to Samarkand from China. I will tell you the legend of this mysterious complex.
- Registan - the main square of Samarkand, which has long been a trade and social center. It is adorned with three madrasahs: Ulugbek, Sher-Dor, and Tilya-Kori. You will learn about the peculiarities of the universities, see classrooms, and understand how students were educated in the Middle Ages.
Samarkand through the eyes of locals
- In the Ulugbek Madrasah, I will introduce you to the process of making national fabrics. I will show the bride and groom's attire and tell you about the customs, traditions, and rituals that newlyweds follow.
- In the Tilya-Kori Madrasah, we will appreciate the work of local potters and learn how Samarkand silk paper is made today using methods from the 8th century.
- And during the walk, I will arrange a mini photoshoot for you against the backdrop of fairy-tale mausoleums, madrasahs, mosques, turquoise domes, and ornate doors. I will help you relax in front of the camera and suggest the most flattering angle.
