About this experience
Geneva is the most Russian city in Switzerland. What could the 'Protestant Rome' have in common with Russian history and culture? Yet many Russian writers and musicians, merchants and public figures have contributed to the life of Geneva, becoming an integral part of its history since the 17th century! I will introduce you to this side of the city and show the most remarkable places related to the theme of our tour.
Program
You will learn about the lives of our famous compatriots in Geneva, where writers like Dostoevsky, Gogol, Turgenev, Tolstoy, and Karamzin lived, and where revolutionaries like Lenin and Plekhanov resided and worked. Russian landscape artists came here to study painting, and you will be able to appreciate the views that inspired them.
You will see the world's only image of Lenin lying down and even the street where Russia's fate was almost decided a hundred years ago when Lenin fell off his bicycle and severely injured his head. You will visit the conservatory where Tchaikovsky and Stravinsky conducted, the Bolshoi Theatre where Russian troupes always have great success. We will pass by Davidoff's store, founded by a Russian immigrant, recently celebrating its 100th anniversary. And you will definitely visit the Geneva district of 'Lefortovo' and discover its secrets.
The Cross Exaltation Church in Geneva, a masterpiece of Russian architecture, will open its doors to you. And if you have the strength and desire to continue the tour, you will learn about modern scientific discoveries made in Geneva with the help of Russian physicists, see a copy of the 'Conquerors of Space' monument, a gift from the Soviet government to the UN, and much more.
