About this experience
I invite you to take a sightseeing walk around Geneva, where you will get acquainted with the main attractions and interesting facts from the city's history, as well as with the traditions, secrets, and way of life of Geneva residents in the interweaving of various cultures.
Program
I will tell you the history of this ancient city in the center of Europe, named by Julius Caesar and known as the Protestant Rome. You will get a new perspective on the famous architectural monuments, squares, fountains, and streets that bear the traces of ancient Romans and our famous contemporaries.
- We will stroll along the promenade of Lake Geneva named after the snow-white peak of Mont Blanc, where the beauty Empress Elisabeth of Austria and Queen of Hungary, known as Sisi, was assassinated.
- We will see the Geneva Fountain, standing at 140m high, and I will tell you why it has become a symbol of Geneva.
- You will learn about the lonely Duke of Brunswick who bequeathed all his fortune to Geneva for his mausoleum made of pink granite.
- We will admire the watershed of Lake Geneva and the Rhone River flowing from it at the Mont Blanc bridge, which divides the city into 2 parts, see the man-made island named after the world-renowned philosopher and native Genevan, J.-J. Rousseau.
- The famous Flower Clock in the English Garden will tell us about the establishment of the Swiss watchmaking industry and the value of Swiss watches.
- Next, we will explore the Old Town: Museum of Fine Arts History, Elevation of the Holy Cross Cathedral (Orthodox Church) with the miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary, Place du Bourg-de-Four, the oldest square in Geneva, St. Peter's Cathedral, Calvin's auditorium, Geneva City Hall, the old Arsenal, the house-museum of Jean-Jacques Rousseau, and the Tavel House—Geneva's oldest house.
- We will see the New Square, which has been the center of Geneva's culture and art since the 17th century, and the Bastions Park with 4-meter-high bas-reliefs of Geneva Reformers, the University of Geneva stemming from the first free school for boys of all classes created in the 16th century, as well as the Conservatory, Rath Museum, and the Opera House.
- By car, we will drive to the International Quarter, which has made Geneva globally famous, attracting numerous international delegations and private individuals. The Nations Square and the Palace of Nations, symbols of global democracy and popular unity, the World Trade Organization, the Red Cross and Red Crescent Society established in Geneva by General Dunant.
