About this experience
In 100 km from Barcelona, high up in the mountains, an extraordinary town is hidden, only accessible by a steep serpentine road. Here you will discover the charm of Catalan antiquity, visit artisan workshops and rural shops, meet interesting people. And in the local Grand Canyon with waterfalls, lakes, and eagle nests, we will have a picnic with wine and tapas.
What to Expect
Soulful atmosphere and picturesque views
The journey will begin with a short walk through the town of ancient stone houses, cobblestone streets, endless flowered balconies, and village shops, where the aromas of bread and sausages linger. Without unnecessary historical facts and dubious legends about witches, I will tell you about the locals' way of life and the community of only about 150 people. I will show you the cozy parish church of Archangel Michael and lead you to the most atmospheric nooks of Rupit.
Rural shops and artisan workshops
Throughout the region, this area is famous for its natural meat delicacies, cheeses, and honey. And if you want to try authentic Catalan cuisine, then Rupit is the perfect place. You will visit a family-owned meat shop, where only natural products are prepared according to traditional recipes. Visit a local resident who bakes handmade galettes as his ancestors did. In the village cheese factory, you can purchase excellent cheeses. If desired, taste the walnut balsam “rotafia” and drink wine from a porron. You will also get acquainted with ceramic works in the pottery workshop.
Fantastic nature and friendly picnic
En route from Barcelona, you will notice the active and picturesque relief of the area—it was formed after volcanic eruptions more than 11,000 years ago! After a walk through the town, I will invite you to the local Grand Canyon, where you will see the 80-meter El Salt de Sallent waterfall, beautiful views of lakes and forests, and if you're lucky, majestic eagle flights, as there are many nests here. In one of the picturesque spots, we will have a picnic with Catalan snacks and wine. And we will talk about the quiet, peaceful, and harmonious life away from noisy metropolises.
