About this experience
A extraordinary small town lurks high up in the mountains, just 100 km from Barcelona, accessible only through a steep mountain road. Here you will uncover the charm of Catalan antiquity, visit artisan workshops and rural shops, meet interesting locals. And in the local Grand Canyon with waterfalls, lakes, and eagle nests, we will have a picnic with wine and tapas.
What to Expect
Soulful Atmosphere and Postcard Views
The journey begins with a short walk through the town of ancient stone houses, cobbled streets, endless flowered balconies, and rural shops filled with the scents of bread and sausages. I will tell you about the locals' way of life and the community where only about 150 people live, without unnecessary historical facts and dubious legends about witches. I will show you the cozy parish church of Archangel Michael and lead you to the most atmospheric corners of Rupit.
Rural Shops and Artisan Workshops
This region is renowned for its natural meat delicacies, cheeses, and honey. If you want to try authentic Catalan cuisine, Rupit is the perfect place. You will visit a family meat shop that uses only natural products and traditional recipes. Meet a local resident who bakes handmade pastries like his ancestors did. In the village cheese factory, you can buy excellent cheeses. If you wish, taste the walnut balsam 'ratafia' and drink wine from a porron. You will also get acquainted with ceramic works in the pottery workshop.
Fantastic Nature and Friendly Picnic
On the way from Barcelona, you will notice the active and picturesque relief of the area—it was shaped after volcanic eruptions over 11,000 years ago! After a walk through the town, I will invite you to the local Grand Canyon, where you will see the 80-meter El Salt de Sallent waterfall, beautiful views of lakes and forests, and with some luck—a majestic eagle soaring, as there are many nests here. In one of the picturesque spots, we will have a picnic with Catalan snacks and wine. And we will talk about the quiet, measured, and harmonious life away from noisy metropolises.
