What to Expect
Beauty on the "coast of orange blossoms"
Located halfway between Barcelona and Valencia, in the province of Castellón on the Costa del Azahar (Orange Blossom Coast), lies the charming resort town of Peñíscola. Besides its excellent beaches, the town is known for being a filming location for "Game of Thrones", and most notably - for its mysterious Templar castle, which will be the focal point of our route.
History of the Mystical Castle
During the excursion, you will explore the historical and artistic monument - Peñíscola Castle. Built by the Templars in 1294 on the highest part of the cliff, on the remains of an old Arab fortress, it underwent minor changes in the 15th century by order of Pope Benedict XIII. I will tell you about the complex life of this person, about the times of the Great Schism and the era of persecutions. I will also share the legend that the Imperial Code is hidden in the castle, containing special secrets of Christianity and still undiscovered. Additionally, we will discuss other mystical stories, as during the Middle Ages, occultists and alchemists lived here, dedicated to the study of esoterica and human consciousness.
Panoramic Views and a Walk in the Center
Climbing to the top of the castle, you will have a bird's-eye view of the old town, and descending to the historical center, you will stroll through the colorful streets of this fishing town with its typical blue and white houses of the Mediterranean region. Along the way, I will talk about local lifestyle and the culture of this sunny region, and at the end of the walk, you can have lunch at one of the excellent local restaurants, where you will be offered exquisite dishes made from fresh seafood.
