About this experience
I will introduce you to amazing sights of Valencia off the beaten path. You will see an active sanctuary in a deep cave, located among the mountains of a national natural park. Then we will visit the picturesque town of Segorbe and its olive oil museum, the only one in the Valencian Community.
What to expect
Path to the Holy Cave
Walking along a mountain trail, you will descend into a deep cave and find yourself in a unique sanctuary with no analogs in Spain. This place of worship and pilgrimage is of special significance to Christianity: in the 16th century, an image of the Virgin Mary was found here, attributed with countless miraculous properties. I will tell you about the history of the cave and the creation of the chapel at the mountain slopes. The water on the cave's vaults is considered miraculous, and we can collect or buy it at a local shop.
Olive Oil Museum
Next, we will head to the ancient town of Segorbe, where Romans, Visigoths, Arabs, and Christians left their mark in different centuries. Here we will visit a former olive oil mill, now transformed into an olive oil museum. You will see antique tools for oil production and learn about the secrets of its making. At the museum's shop, we can buy a bottle of the finest Spanish olive oil, natural cosmetics made from olive components, and even olive marmalade with red pepper, rose petals, or oranges.
Charm of a Medieval Town
We will stroll through the atmospheric streets of Segorbe and optionally visit the 13th-century Cathedral Museum with ancient history. We will see the Prison Tower (La Torre de la Cárcel) and a fragment of a Roman aqueduct. Then we will climb Sopenya Hill, a former settlement of kings and nobility, offering a magnificent view of Segorbe and its surroundings!
