About this experience
During this trip, you will get in touch with the enchanting nature and history of ancient Valencia. In the Sierra de Espadan Nature Reserve, you will encounter one of the most beautiful caves in the world. You will cruise on a boat along an underground river, observe stalactites, stalagmites, and rock paintings. In the town of Sagunto, we will explore a monument connected to Hannibal himself. And afterwards, we'll enjoy a glass of wine in a cozy local cafe.
What to Expect
San Jose Caves, or Saint Joseph's
Located 45 km from Valencia. On the way, you will drive along orange groves and enjoy the local color. Upon arrival, you will find yourself in front of an amazing monument, discovered only at the beginning of the last century. Just imagine how the explorers felt, finding the drawings of ancient people preserved here for millennia!
The caves are traversed by an underground river, the origin of which is still unknown. We'll ride a boat along it, see stalactites, stalagmites, the Bat Hall, Lake Diana, and the Lovers' Alley. And we'll walk part of the way to take a closer look at the cave formations and see the first steps of humanity in painting.
Ancient Sagunto
Next, we'll head to the city of Sagunto, home to a national monument - the castle, built by the Romans and connected with the name of Hannibal. The castle is situated 800 meters above sea level, offering magnificent views of the city and the Roman amphitheater. And I will share the history and legends of the place where witnesses of centuries have been preserved - Iberian and Roman ruins.
To conclude, I'll suggest visiting a quaint restaurant for a glass of local wine. Those who wish can also have lunch.
