About this experience
During a walk through Orvieto, you will travel through different epochs - Etruscans, Romans, the Middle Ages, and the Renaissance. You will feel like an archaeologist and a bit of an art historian. Visit the underground part of the city created by a mysterious civilization. Then, transport yourself in time to admire the frescoes by Luca Signorelli, who is rightfully called a precursor to Michelangelo.
What to expect
- Our tour starts with the famous 58-meter-deep St. Patrick's Well - you will see that it is truly a marvel of engineering ingenuity.
- We will visit the Albornoz Fortress - the perfect spot to enjoy panoramic views of the valley.
- We will explore the underground part of the city, see the Etruscan well Pozzo della Cava, and discuss how a complex labyrinth of tunnels and cavern-cisterns was created beneath Orvieto.
- We will enter one of the most beautiful cathedrals in the world - the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. And then - into the San Brizio Chapel, a gem of the Renaissance period. We will examine Luca Signorelli's frescoes on the theme of the Last Judgment.
- We will walk through medieval streets to Piazza del Popolo - to the Torre del Moro tower and the ancient church of Sant'Andrea.
