About this experience
The history of Riga dates back to the distant 13th century. When ships arrived at the shores to colonize new lands in the name of the Holy Virgin Mary, with envoys of the pope, knights, and merchants. Much water has flowed since then. Instead of a small settlement on the Daugava River bank, a large beautiful city grew. On this walk, I will introduce you to its history, legends, and architecture.
What to Expect
I will tell you about life in medieval Riga, about the struggle of the residents with the order and the church, about the laws of the medieval and modern city. I will tell you how the residents of Riga defended their rights and their city. What influence the guilds of Riga merchants and the traders of the Blackheads Brotherhood had on the city's life. And also about the traditional dishes and drinks of the Latvian people and the many cafes in the Old Town.
We will walk through the narrow streets of the Old Town. We will visit the first episcopal courtyard of the founder of Riga. We will stroll along 'Blumenstrasse' and visit 'Baker Street 221'.
If desired, you can visit a true medieval cafe on the narrowest street in Old Riga, climb to the observation deck of St. Peter's Church, take a ride on a water tram along the canal.
