In addition, you will discover the locations where famous movies were filmed and explore the peculiarities of Riga's Art Nouveau style.
What to Expect
Riga - history and legends
You will hear about the ancient settlement that was located on the site of Riga as far back as the 10th century, uncover the secret of its name, and learn who and under what circumstances in the early 13th century decided to build a stone city. You will also see one of the oldest cathedrals in the Baltics - the Dome Cathedral, examine the church of St. Peter, the Powder Tower, the mysterious House of the Hangman, and the Jacob's Barracks, which have held the title of Riga's longest building for many centuries.
Old houses and famous films
The House of Black Cats will help you understand the features of Riga's Art Nouveau or Jugendstil. And Albert's Square will remind you of a monk who founded the city. Additionally, I will tell you the legend of the nuns in the Convent yard, reveal the secrets of the 17th-century Ratman House, show you the Latvian Parliament - the Saeima - and explain why unmarried Germans used to live in the famous Blackheads House. I will also help you find the locations where "17 Moments of Spring" and the Russian "Sherlock Holmes" were filmed.
