About this experience
A walk around Riga is beautiful at any time of day, but it takes on a special charm in the evenings, immersing you in the Middle Ages. In the light of flickering lights and to the music of city bells, you will hear Riga's legends about Peter I, the Brotherhood of Blackheads, the Poor Sinner, and even about cats. You will visit the places where Stirlitz and Sherlock walked; see the oldest squares and learn about the events that shaped the historical fabric of the city. And to cap it all off, I will recommend atmospheric establishments where you can enjoy the rest of the evening with local drinks.
What to Expect
Medieval beauty in evening attire
We will meet on the banks of the Daugava, the 'river of fate', where against the backdrop of illuminated bridges I will tell the first legend of Riga. You will see the Riga Castle and learn about its origins. You will get to know the medieval architectural complex of the 'Three Brothers'. The quiet atmosphere of the St. Jacob's Church will immerse you in a brief history of the Poor Sinner. Along the way, I will show you the tallest tower in the Old Town and St. Peter's Church, where I will tell you about the complex destiny of this special place, where you can forget about time in both literal and figurative senses. Below the church walls, you will encounter the Bremen Musicians, and in the hidden labyrinth of passageways, you will understand how Riga got its name.
Riga's Squares
Next, you will explore the main Lutheran cathedral and the Cathedral Square, to which the streets of Riga converge. We will talk about the important events at the largest square in the Old Town. Then, after wandering through narrow alleys, you will emerge onto Town Hall Square, where you will listen to the melody of bells and learn about the activities of the famous Blackheads. I will tell you what the square was in the past, how the symbolic gates open, and who works in the Riga City Council. And at Liv Square, where life is always bustling, you will discover many urban legends, not only about people, but also about cats!
Riga and its residents
The elegant buildings of the capital are, of course, objects of special aesthetic pleasure and examples of styles from different eras. But above all, they are stories about the people who wove the fabric of the city's appearance. You will learn how Riga lived throughout its honorable eight centuries, who its builders and ordinary residents were. I will tell you why Peter I loved Riga so much and which famous personalities called this city their home.
Cinema and Gastronomy
Riga is quite photogenic. This epithet will surely come to your mind immediately - this feature helped the city become a star of Soviet cinema. During the walk, I will help you guess which streets Agent Stirlitz walked, where Sherlock Holmes caught criminals, and which other films were shot in the Latvian capital. The walk will end in a truly fairytale corner of the evening city, where it is impossible to guess what century it is. And if you feel like it, I will take you to a wonderful confectionery, where your eyes will be delighted by the variety, or to a beer bar, where you can taste our country's main drink - beer, the variety of which you can choose according to your taste.
As a result, in 2 hours you will see the most vibrant sights of the center and get a general idea of their history and place in the city's life.
