About this experience
Just wait for dusk, go out into the streets of the Old Town, and before you lies the dark side of Prague with its secrets, medieval legends, and shadows on gothic facades. You will hear tales of alchemists, vampires, and executioners, visit the meeting place of Prague ghosts, and immerse yourself in the magic of the Old Town.
What to Expect
What the Streets of the Old Town Will Tell You
We will meet at the famous Prague Astral Clock, which has adorned the Old Town Square for over six centuries, reminding passers-by of the transience of existence. I will tell you about the creation of these clocks and the tragic fate of their creator. Then, following the clock's hands, we will wander through the streets and squares of the Old Town, step by step revealing the secrets hidden behind medieval facades. I will tell you how once mead almost ruined the city's reputation, how chickens and geese from the South Bohemian town of Pisek helped enrich Prague's trade, about the stone prankster from whom local residents teach their children good manners, and other curious and enigmatic Prague stories.
About Executioners, Knights, and Vampires
The heroes of our walk will be the most prominent sights of old Prague and characters from its ancient legends:
- On Marianske Square, you will learn what the Black Knight and Rabbi Betzalel have in common, and hear the story of Prague's most magnificent fountain.
- On Franz Kafka Square, I will tell you how once an executioner saved the Old Town from a hungry death.
- You may even be lucky enough to hear the blind violinist – also a vampire. He will be happy if you appreciate the mournful tune of his violin.
- And I will also tell you about “For Whom the Bell Tolls” of the Tyn Church of the Virgin Mary, show you the place where Prague ghosts meet at midnight, and explain the significance of some of the many house signs preserved in the Old Town.
The magical circle of our route will close at the starting point – the Prague Astral Clock on the Old Town Square.
