About this experience
I invite you on a journey through time - from the Middle Ages to our days. I will guide you through the main places of the city. You will learn how herring made the Dutch the most successful sailors in the 17th century, where sailors first went on their native land, how the first financial bubble burst, and what is written on the houses in the Red Light District. At the end of the walk, you will enjoy a cheese and herring tasting.
What to Expect
The heart of the city, a secret temple, an office of an ancient profession
We will see the birthplace of Amsterdam and its heart - Dam Square, the Royal Palace, the New Church where special blue-blooded individuals are married. I will tell you how Catholics differ from Protestants, and where a secret church is hidden on the narrow streets of the city. We will find the office of the oldest profession in the world and see what is written on the walls of houses in the Red Light District. We will visit the Weigh House, where weight could save a person's life in the Middle Ages. We will find out what was done with a criminal's body after death.
Tulip Mania, wooden shoes, tasting
At the floating flower market, I will talk about the first financial bubble. I will show you the coffee shop where George Clooney and Brad Pitt sat during the filming of 'Ocean's Eleven'. You will examine in detail the famous Delft porcelain and hear the story of Dutch clogs. And as a 'snack', you will try real Dutch herring and the most delicious cheeses in the region.
