What to Expect
Join me on a magical New Year's fairy tale journey!
We will walk through the narrow streets of the medieval city. At the Town Hall Square, we will admire the Christmas tree, similar to the one that 500 years ago the Blackheads' Brotherhood merchants first installed in the square to the delight of the people of Riga. We will visit the Christmas market at Dome Square and warm up by the tree with a glass of famous Riga mulled wine or hot coffee. At the market, you can buy souvenirs you like and taste delicacies of local cuisine.
I will tell you the favorite stories and legends of the locals:
- how Christmas was celebrated in medieval Riga and what legend is associated with the first Riga Christmas tree;
- how Riga was built and the history of the city's oldest building;
- how the Blackheads' House was "reborn from the ashes" and which church first turned into a barn, and then into a museum.
