About this experience
Mtirala is not only the highest mountain near Batumi, but also the main attraction of the national park with the same name. Our hike will take place in the reserved areas, surrounded by amazing plants in one of the wettest places in Europe. The route requires basic physical fitness. In 3.5 hours, you will reach the summit and enjoy the surrounding views.
What to Expect
- The trail to the top of the mountain (1381 meters above sea level) passes through the ancient Colchis forest with unique flora and fauna. The uniqueness is provided by the geographical location, which makes the slopes of the mountain the wettest place in Georgia.
- Along the way, we will encounter numerous mountain streams and small waterfalls
- We will also visit the memorial to the victims of the plane crash on October 25, 2000
- At the summit, you will see the ruins of a former Soviet radar station
- And of course, in good weather, you will enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of Batumi and surroundings, the Black Sea, and the Main Caucasus Range with Mount Elbrus at the lead!
Organizational Details
- The price includes a transfer from Batumi to the starting point of the route and back
- The one-way drive by car will take about 20 minutes. The hiking part to the summit takes around 3.5 hours.
- Depending on the group size, I will take you in a Mercedes Vita/Sprinter car or minivan
- The hiking route does not require special preparation and is suitable for all active travelers
- You will need trekking poles, warm clothing (it can be cold on the mountain), snacks, and hot tea
