What to Expect
Gourmet Durme Chocolate Factory. "Gourmet Durme" is a brand created in Armenia by brothers from France and Austria. In Ashtarak, you will visit the factory where you will be taken on a 20-30 minute tour. Through a transparent window, you will see the production process, followed by a tasting. You can also listen to an audio lecture on the history of chocolate and its manufacturing stages.
Amberd Fortress. On the southern slope of Aragats, at an altitude of 2300 meters, rises the fortress in the clouds. Amberd is not the most popular attraction in Armenia, but it can confidently be called one of the gems of medieval architecture. We will talk about the citadel's unusual destiny. The only road leading to the monument passes through mountain serpentine roads - it is impossible to reach here in winter.
Teger Monastery. In the eponymous village, you will visit another significant monument of Armenia - a religious complex from the 13th century. We will examine its strict architectural decoration.
Monument to the Armenian alphabet. On the western slope of Aragats, in the village of Artashavan, there is a sculptural group consisting of 39 elements, repeating the form of Armenian alphabet letters. Masters of stonecutting from all over Armenia were involved in creating the monument. You will be able to find "your" letter and learn about the creation of one of the oldest scripts in the world.
Karmravor Church. You will also visit the temple of the Holy Mother of God, built in the 7th century in the city of Ashtarak. This is the only Armenian architectural monument that has preserved its authentic tiled roof. Why is the church called "Red" or "Scarlet"? We will tell you on the tour.
Ovanavank Monastery. You will learn about the common Christian relics that were kept here. And you will get acquainted with the history of the medieval complex, which was one of the most famous spiritual and cultural centers of Armenia.
