There are few places in the world where such a concentration of ancient architectural monuments is found on a relatively small territory. There are more than a dozen fortresses alone! How did the ancient builders manage to erect all these grand structures? Thanks to what have many buildings survived to our days? And the age of most of them is 2000 years.

Excursion Plan

• Ayaz-kala Fortress (4-3 centuries BC) - one of the most picturesque monuments of Karakalpakstan. In fact, there are not one, but three fortresses here, grouped around a hill. You will see that the fortress was rightly named, which translates from Turkic as 'fortress on the wind.' Blown by the strongest winds, this fortress has proudly and impregnably stood for many centuries, and you will feel the power of the place.
• Toprak-kala, or 'Earthen city.' Excavations of this castle became a sensation: it turned out that in the 3rd century the city was a progressive capital of Ancient Khwarezm, ancient culture flourished on this land, and the streets and premises were so well designed that Toprak-kala can be called the kingdom of geometry. You will see its ruins and learn how life was arranged here.
• Kyzyl-kala - this ancient structure was built as a defensive fortress and was part of a chain of Khwarezm fortifications created to protect the north-eastern border of Ancient Khwarezm. The fortress walls were so powerful - 8m thick - that even using siege weapons, enemies could not get inside. You will hear the legend of the multi-kilometer underground passage, find out who lives in it, and what is hidden there.
