About this experience
Edam and Volendam are amazing little towns half an hour's drive from Amsterdam. They are filled with that extraordinary atmosphere that is characteristic only of the ancient cities of Holland, where "doll" houses and drawbridges are still preserved.
What to expect
Home of the famous cheese
During a walking tour of Edam, we will talk about the tragic history of this brand of cheese, which was not patented, and about the history of the Netherlands. We will enjoy unique rural landscapes and stroll through the charming streets of Edam away from the hustle and bustle of the capital. We will visit a local pastry shop and the old market square, where a real cheese market is still held (on Wednesdays from July to September). We will visit a local cheese factory, see how cheese is made, and definitely taste the real "Edam".
Fishermen's village
In the former fishing port of Volendam, which was very popular with impressionist artists a century ago, we will try the famous Dutch herring and delicious smoked eel from the local smokehouse. Then we will wander through the numerous alleys of this amazing place. After the walk, you can stay in Volendam and continue exploring the city on your own. You will have a ticket for all public transport in the region for the whole day.
See you in Little Holland!
