About this experience
All the residents of the charming village at the foothills of Troodos Mountains unanimously say that Leonardo Da Vinci came to Lefkara in 1481 for extraordinary laceworks. Now we invite you to admire the art of local craftswomen and jewelers. And also to enjoy a stroll through the picturesque flowering alleys and feel the life of Cyprus.
What to Expect
Lefkara - cozy and pristine
The path leads to one of the most picturesque villages in Cyprus, spread out on the white limestone slopes of the Troodos Mountains. Over the past few centuries, nothing has changed in the architecture of Lefkara: the island's authorities preserve this uniqueness. You will walk through winding cool alleys past houses from the 5th century and two-story buildings from the 18th and 19th centuries, drowning in flowers. And in the depth of the village, you will find a place of attraction for pilgrims - a church where a part of the Holy Living Cross is kept - and hear its story.
Immersing into the world of Cypriot crafts
Right on the shady streets of the village, you will get acquainted with the art of lace-making - 'Lefkaritiko', which has even become an object of UNESCO cultural heritage. We will talk about the traditions of this craft, preserved for over 600 years, and observe the almost magical process of weaving. Lace motifs you will see everywhere: on window grilles, in house construction, in the pattern of tile floors, as well as in silverware. Silver - another pride of Cyprus, it holds the honorary second (silver!) place among the island's industries. To be honest, it's very hard to leave without making a purchase!
Cyprus and olives
At the end of the journey, you will visit a modern olive farm. Here you will be warmly welcomed by the owner, the mayor of Lefkara, and his wife Svetlana. You will see an 800-year-old olive tree that you can walk into, learn about the traditions of olive oil production, and appreciate its taste depending on the age of the tree. And also taste several types of olives and even sweets made from these Greek fruits.
